I can say, in all honesty (& after 5 years of an "education" I promised my daughter) that there are only 5 reasons I can come up with:
1. Stupidity (universal)
2. Laziness (men esp.)
3. Indifference (men esp.)
4. To make themselves appear goodly and virtuous in front of people that matter to them
5. Because they have crossed a line, have invested too heavily, cemented their thinking and have too much to lose by admitting they might have been wrong ( - OK, so that's 8 in total then)
ps
6. Because it's a cult, & a mass social psychotic contagion
The big deception is an evil lie. Why do people believe?

Yes! These people believing this lie are in powerful positions exercising their rights stupidly.
They are too lazy to see the destructive long term effects of this deception.
Do they care? Only about themselves.
